Product Description

The SGS 51116 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit sized Letter E (0.2500 inches, 1/4 inch) with a 118-degree faceted point angle. Machined from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a bright uncoated surface, this bit delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for precision drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The two-flute spiral design with a web-thinned, tapered web reduces thrust at entry and clears chips efficiently. At 3.25 inches overall length and a 2-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and machining centers used by metalworking professionals and maintenance machinists.

This Series 101 jobber drill is suited for general-purpose production drilling in machine shops, tool rooms, and industrial maintenance environments. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.2500 inches diameter seats securely in standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet holders. A maximum drilling depth of 1.61 inches makes it well matched to through-hole and blind-hole applications in mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar workpiece materials. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional CNC and manual drill press operations. Manufactured to DIN 338 standards for consistent dimensional accuracy across production runs.

Key Features

  • Micrograin solid carbide construction for high rigidity and extended tool life in metalworking applications
  • 118-degree faceted point angle with web-thinned, tapered web for reduced entry thrust and accurate hole starting
  • Bright uncoated finish suitable for use with cutting fluids on a wide range of workpiece materials
  • Two-flute regular spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling
  • Straight-cylindrical 0.2500-inch shank fits standard drill chucks and collet systems without adapters
  • Manufactured to DIN 338 standards with a tight diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches

Compatibility

Designed as a standard jobber length drill bit for use in manual drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills equipped with chucks or collet systems accepting a 0.2500-inch straight-cylindrical shank.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance professional familiar with rotary cutting tool procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before starting the spindle. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize tool life; note that this bit does not support through-spindle coolant delivery.
