The SGS 51059 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 59, equivalent to 0.041 inches (1.04 mm) in diameter. Built from micrograin carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit runs a 118-degree faceted point and a web-thinned, tapered web for reduced thrust at entry. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 0.75-inch spiral flute and a straight-cylindrical shank. It cuts right-hand with a regular spiral, two flutes, and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio. Meets DIN 338 standards. Intended for professional machinists and fabricators working with composite materials and similarly demanding substrates.
The SGS 51059 is well suited for precision drilling in composite workpieces where carbide's hardness and edge retention outperform high-speed steel. The web-thinned tip reduces walking and improves hole entry accuracy on thin or layered materials. At 0.041 inches, this is a fine-diameter bit used in instrument, aerospace, and light manufacturing applications where tight hole tolerances are required. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 0.609 inches.
Designed as a DIN 338 jobber-length drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools equipped with collets or chucks accepting a 0.041-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is composite; the micrograin carbide substrate is suited to non-ferrous and abrasive materials.
This bit is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in standard drill chucks or precision collets. Confirm the chuck or collet is clean and properly seated before securing the shank to avoid runout on fine-diameter tooling. Solid carbide bits are rigid but brittle - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts, or excessive feed rates that can cause fracture. No coolant-through capability; manage heat with appropriate feed and speed selection for the workpiece material.
