The SGS 51022 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Ground from micrograin solid carbide, this bit delivers tighter tolerances and longer tool life compared to high-speed steel alternatives. It carries a wire gauge size of 22, equivalent to 0.157 inches (3.99 mm), with a 118-degree faceted point angle and a bright, uncoated finish. The two-flute regular spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation in a wide range of materials, making it a reliable choice for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
This drill bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a straight-shank carbide bit is appropriate. It excels in harder workpiece materials such as cast iron, hardened steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous alloys where carbide outperforms high-speed steel. The web-thinned, tapered-web construction reduces entry thrust and improves centering. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.375-inch flute length, it fits standard jobber-length chuck applications. This bit is sold individually and is part of SGS Series 101.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit conforming to DIN 338, suitable for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks across CNC machining centers, drill presses, and compatible power tools.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling. Carbide bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed rates, or dropping the bit. Always match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material and consult published carbide drilling parameters for the specific material being cut.
