The SGS 51016 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Ground from micrograin solid carbide, it holds tighter tolerances than high-speed steel equivalents and resists heat buildup at higher feed rates. The bit features a 118-degree faceted point, a 2-flute spiral flute geometry with web thinning, and a bright uncoated finish. Overall length is 2.75 inches with a flute length of 1.625 inches and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.177 inches. Diameter tolerance is held to -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches. This is a right-hand cut tool sold individually and suited to machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision fabricators.
The SGS 51016 fits standard drill chucks and is used in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drilling operations where consistent hole quality is required. At 0.177 inches (4.50 mm, No. 16 wire gauge), it is well-suited for tapping prep holes, clearance holes, and through-hole drilling in metal fabrication and machine shop environments. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth drilling applications. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 1.297 inches. This bit is manufactured to DIN 338 standards.
Designed as a direct-fit jobber-length drill bit for standard drill chucks accepting a 0.177-inch straight-cylindrical shank, conforming to DIN 338 Series 101 specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians in machine shop environments. Secure the shank fully in a keyed or keyless drill chuck before operation and verify chuck runout before use with carbide tooling, as carbide is more brittle than HSS and sensitive to side loading. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing bits. Do not use this bit as a reamer or apply lateral force during drilling.
