The SGS 51015 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The bit is ground to a 118-degree faceted point angle with web thinning for easier penetration and reduced thrust. It measures 2.75 inches overall, with a 1.625-inch spiral flute length and a 0.180-inch straight-cylindrical shank diameter. The bright uncoated finish maintains dimensional accuracy without adding coating thickness. This tool is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose jobber-length drilling in shop and field environments. The wire size 15 designation corresponds to 0.180 inches (4.57 mm) in decimal and metric equivalents. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The regular spiral and two-flute configuration make it a standard choice for drilling aluminum, steel, cast iron, and similar materials at moderate feed rates. It is appropriate for both CNC and manual machine tool setups.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement drill bit in wire size 15 (0.180 inches), compatible with standard drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power drills. Part of SGS Series 101.
This bit should be secured in a drill chuck or collet rated for the 0.180-inch shank diameter before operation. Ensure the machine is fully stopped and de-energized before changing or inspecting the bit. Solid carbide is brittle relative to high-speed steel; avoid side loading, impact, or use in flex-shaft tools where runout cannot be controlled. Follow applicable workplace safety standards for rotating cutting tools.
