The SGS 51008 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composite materials. Ground to a 118-degree faceted point with web thinning, it cuts cleanly on entry and reduces thrust requirements at the tip. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.199 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. At 3 inches overall length with a 1.75-inch flute length, this is a standard jobber proportioned for general-purpose work. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals install this bit in CNC drilling centers, bench drill presses, and handheld power tools where dimensional accuracy is required.
The SGS 51008 is suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling applications in production and maintenance environments. The bright uncoated finish makes it appropriate for materials where coated tools may cause adhesion or built-up edge issues. With a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, it handles chip evacuation effectively in moderate-depth holes. The 2-flute spiral configuration with a regular spiral type provides balanced cutting geometry for right-hand rotation. Maximum drilling depth is rated at 1.406 inches.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling selection for applications requiring a wire size 8 (0.199-inch decimal, 5.05 mm) drill bit within the 0.150 to 0.200 inch drill bit size range, conforming to DIN 338 jobber-length geometry.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should verify spindle speed and feed rate settings before running solid carbide tooling, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to side-loading and interrupted cuts. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is clean and properly tightened before operation to prevent shank slippage. Do not use this bit in hammer or impact-drill mode. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace immediately if chipping or edge breakdown is observed.
