The SGS 49415 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. With a 0.1575 inch (4.00 mm) mill diameter and a 0.9843 inch (25.00 mm) length of cut, this extra-long series tool (1XLM) delivers deep-reach cutting capability in a compact diameter. The AlTiN coating provides heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. It runs a 4-flute, 30-degree helix spiral flute configuration with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation. Micrograin carbide construction supports tight tolerances and consistent edge integrity across extended production runs. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in job shop and production environments.
The SGS 49415 is suited for milling hardened steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and superalloys — corresponding to primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The extra-long length of cut makes it well-suited for deep-pocket milling, slotting, and profiling where standard-length tools cannot reach. The variable index geometry helps reduce chatter and harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without pre-drilling.
Designed as a direct-use solid carbide square end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.1575 inch (4.00 mm) straight cylindrical shank. Compatible with primary workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation is performed by machinists using an appropriate collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 4.00 mm shank diameter; verify shank runout before operation. Confirm spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut against the SGS Series 1XLM cutting data recommendations for the target workpiece material before engaging the cut. Never exceed the tool's rated depth of cut or apply side loads beyond the design envelope of an extra-long reach tool, as deflection risk increases with reach-to-diameter ratio. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling.
