The SGS 48560 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in CNC and manual milling operations. Built from micrograin solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited to demanding cutting environments. The cutter measures 0.6299 inches in diameter with a 1.2598-inch length of cut and a matching 0.6299-inch straight cylindrical shank. Four spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool in the SGS Series 1M lineup, intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The 48560 is rated for a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, titanium and high-temperature alloys, and plastics, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its regular-length geometry and center-cutting capability make it well suited for both plunge entry and conventional side milling operations in production and job-shop environments. The AlTiN coating extends tool life in high-speed dry or near-dry machining applications by reducing thermal wear at the cutting edge.
Designed for use in standard CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.6299-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for machining hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, titanium, high-temperature alloys, and plastics per SGS Series 1M application ratings.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface finish quality.
