The SGS 48544 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-precision milling in demanding material applications. With a 0.0591 inch (1.50 mm) mill diameter and a 0.1772 inch (4.50 mm) length of cut, this tool handles fine detail work where dimensional accuracy is critical. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting harder or abrasive materials. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action. The variable index design reduces harmonic vibration, improving surface finish and tool stability during high-speed passes. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, or precision manufacturing environments are the primary users of this end mill.
This end mill is built for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills requiring small-diameter tooling. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, making it suitable for slotting, profiling, and pocket milling operations. The AlTiN finish and micrograin solid carbide construction make it appropriate for a broad range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and plastics, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 3.00 mm diameter fits standard collet systems.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and plastics. Fits any collet or tool holder accepting a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the SGS Series 1M regular-length end mill lineup.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state. Ensure the collet and holder are clean and free of chips before seating the shank to the specified depth. Do not exceed the manufacturer-recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material being cut. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter carbide tools are susceptible to breakage under excessive load or runout conditions.
