The SGS 42612 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Part of the SGS Series 55MS, this stub-length end mill features a 0.3937 inch cutting diameter, a 0.6299 inch length of cut, and five flutes with a 45-degree helix angle for aggressive chip evacuation and surface finish quality. The variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during high-speed cutting passes. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting ferrous and exotic alloys. This tool is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and CNC machine operators working in production or job shop environments.
The SGS 42612 is suited for milling hardened steels, stainless steels, titanium, high-temperature alloys, and cast irons, corresponding to material code groups H, K, M, P, and S. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.3937 inches in diameter with a shank diameter tolerance of +0.000 to -0.009 mm, ensuring reliable collet or end mill holder retention. The stub length profile adds rigidity and reduces deflection in applications requiring tight tolerances or higher radial engagement depths.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with ER collet chucks, end mill holders, or hydraulic toolholders accepting a 0.3937 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the SGS Series 55MS classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended insertion depth in the holder and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine OEM guidelines for appropriate speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the target workpiece material.
