The SGS 39311 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 3/32 inch (0.0938 inch) cutting diameter, a 9/32 inch (0.2813 inch) length of cut, and a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Overall length is 1.5 inches. The tool is ground from micrograin carbide stock and coated with a titanium nitride (TiN) finish to extend tool life and reduce friction at the cutting edge. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can plunge directly into a workpiece as well as perform standard peripheral and slot milling cuts.
The SGS 39311 is suited for milling operations on a broad spectrum of materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, and structural steels, consistent with its Primary Workpiece Material Codes of H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its compact diameter makes it well matched for fine-detail slotting, profiling, and contouring work where larger-diameter tools cannot reach. This tool is typically used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills by machinists working in tool shops, job shops, aerospace, and general metalworking environments.
Designed as a standard straight-shank square end mill for use in 1/8 inch collets or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 1/8 inch cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholding specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully in the collet or tool holder and torque the retention mechanism per the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the cutting diameter before beginning a cut, as runout beyond the stated mill diameter tolerance of plus 0.000 inch to minus 0.002 inch will reduce tool life and surface finish quality.
