The SGS 39018 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations in a wide range of materials. With a 0.1406 inch (9/64 inch) mill diameter and a 0.5 inch length of cut, this tool is built for detail work and contoured surface milling where tight tolerances matter. The micrograin carbide substrate provides edge stability, and the TiCN coating adds hardness and wear resistance for extended tool life in demanding applications. A 30-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during the cut, improving surface finish. This end mill is installed and used by machinists and tooling professionals in job shop, production, and prototype environments.
The SGS 39018 is suited for milling hardened steels, stainless, cast iron, nonferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and plastics — corresponding to primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The 3/16 inch shank diameter fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. At 2 inches overall length, this is a regular-reach tool appropriate for shallow to medium-depth cavity work and profile milling where clearance is not a constraint. Single-end configuration means the tool is replaced rather than flipped when worn.
Designed for use with standard 3/16 inch collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per SGS Series 1B classification, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, nonferrous metals, plastics, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is isolated before loading or changing tooling. Seat the 3/16 inch shank fully in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware per the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges under magnification before use — solid carbide tools at this diameter are brittle and must not be dropped or subjected to side impact.
