The SGS 39017 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of materials. With a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) cutting diameter, a 4-flute spiral configuration, and a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) finish, this end mill delivers strong wear resistance and effective chip evacuation in demanding cutting environments. The 30-degree helix angle and variable index geometry reduce harmonic vibration during the cut. It is suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals requiring tight tolerances on small-diameter work.
This end mill is built for milling operations on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and non-metallic materials, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The centercutting design allows for direct plunge entry. With a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length on a 3/16 inch straight cylindrical shank, it fits standard collet and end mill holder setups used in production and prototype machining.
Designed for use with standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems accepting a 3/16 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined in the SGS Series 1 product line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder torque and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify shank engagement depth meets the toolholder minimum grip length to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Inspect the collet or toolholder for wear before seating the shank to maintain concentricity within acceptable runout limits.
