The SGS 38247 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding material applications. It features a 3/8-inch diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 0.02-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge and extends tool life. The 2-flute, single-end design with a Weldon flat shank provides positive drive in end mill holders. With a micrograin carbide substrate and a 30-degree medium helix, this tool is suited for roughing operations where edge strength and chip evacuation are priorities. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this end mill in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The SGS 38247 is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its coarse pitch and micrograin carbide construction make it a practical choice for roughing passes in job shop and production environments. The uncoated bright finish is appropriate for applications where coating buildup or heat-induced coating failure would be a concern, such as interrupted cuts or when cutting with coolant-sensitive setups. It fits standard end mill holders and is compatible with conventional CNC machining center spindles accepting 3/8-inch shank tooling.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 3/8-inch Weldon flat shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS Series 3CR application data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Torque the Weldon flat setscrew against the flat of the shank per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates corner radius wear and can cause premature tool failure.
