The SGS 38159 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metal-cutting applications. It carries a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.015 inch corner radius that extends tool life and reduces edge chipping at the workpiece. The AlTiN coating, sold under SGS proprietary designation Ti-NAMITE-A, provides high-temperature hardness and oxidation resistance, making this tool effective in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions. Four spiral flutes in a right-hand cutting direction with a medium helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation. The straight cylindrical shank measures 3/16 inch in diameter and fits standard end mill toolholders.
This end mill is suited for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The corner radius geometry reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, which is especially useful when machining hardened steels or high-strength alloys. It belongs to SGS Series 01C and is intended for use in machining centers and CNC milling operations where consistent dimensional accuracy and surface finish are required. The single-end, long-reach configuration makes it a practical choice for slotting, profiling, and pocketing in metalworking shops.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS material application data.
Installation is performed by machining professionals using standard end mill toolholders; ensure the holder bore and collet are clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on a small-diameter carbide tool. Never exceed the manufacturer-rated depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material. Handle solid carbide tooling carefully to avoid edge chipping from impact with hard surfaces.
