The SGS 36598 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in CNC machining applications. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1.25 inch length of cut, and a 3.25 inch overall length. The four-flute, variable-helix geometry reduces chatter and harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. An AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the toughness and wear resistance required for production-grade milling. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this end mill in standard 0.5 inch straight-shank tool holders.
This end mill is suited for milling hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and high-temperature superalloys, corresponding to workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, making it viable for slot milling, pocket milling, and contour operations. The spiral flute and variable index geometry help evacuate chips efficiently and reduce the risk of tool deflection in deep-pocket applications. It fits production environments running tight tolerances, with a mill diameter tolerance of plus 0.0000 to minus 0.0020 inches.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H (hardened steels), K (cast iron), M (stainless steel), P (steel), and S (titanium and high-temperature alloys). Designed for use in 0.5 inch straight-shank tool holders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in an e-stop or lockout state before changing tooling. Verify tool holder runout before engaging a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on the cutting edges. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable OSHA standards for tooling torque and setup procedures.
