The SGS 36596 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 0.25 inch cutting diameter, 0.75 inch length of cut, and a 2.5 inch overall length, this four-flute tool is built for precision metal removal in demanding shop environments. The micrograin carbide substrate and AlTiN finish provide heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. A variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonic chatter, improving surface finish and tool life. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
The SGS 36596 is suited for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as high-temperature alloys. Its Series Z1 designation places it in SGS's general-purpose to high-performance category, appropriate for profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, adding versatility in programming. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard collet chucks and end mill holders used on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. Primary workpiece material codes listed by the manufacturer are H, K, M, P, and S, covering materials such as hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, carbon steels, and superalloys.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cutting tool for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.25 inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece material codes per manufacturer designation: H, K, M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from any collet or holder. Verify collet bore size matches the 0.25 inch shank diameter within specified tolerances before tightening. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for runout inspection and proper torque on collet nut fasteners.
