The SGS 36500 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for finishing operations in demanding machining environments. Built on the Z1PLB long series platform, it features a 0.625-inch mill diameter, a 1.25-inch length of cut, and a 6-inch overall length that extends reach into deep pockets and contoured surfaces. The four-flute geometry runs in a variable helix and variable index configuration, reducing harmonic chatter and improving surface finish at higher feed rates. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting hard and abrasive materials. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC milling equipment.
The SGS 36500 is suited for finishing cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, stainless steels, and cast materials. Its long reach geometry — with a 3-inch reach length and a 1.75-inch neck length — makes it practical for deep-cavity mold work, die finishing, and contoured aerospace or medical component profiles. The 0.605-inch neck diameter provides clearance relief without compromising rigidity. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC spindle setups.
Rated for primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S — covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for any CNC milling application requiring a 0.625-inch shank, long-series ball end mill with AlTiN coating.
Installation requires a compatible CNC tool holder sized for a 0.625-inch shank diameter; heat-shrink, hydraulic, or precision collet holders are standard for this shank class. Verify spindle RPM and feed rate against the published SGS Z1PLB series speeds-and-feeds data before first cut. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each setup — do not run a chipped or delaminated tool. Handle solid carbide tooling carefully to avoid impact damage to the flutes or shank.
