The SGS 36428 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built to Series Z1 specifications, it features a 7/16-inch cutting diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 2-3/4-inch overall length with a 7/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. The AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life when cutting hard or abrasive workpiece materials. A variable helix and variable index geometry reduce chatter and harmonic vibration during cut, making it well suited for aggressive feed rates and deep side milling passes. Machinists and toolroom operators working in production or job-shop environments install this end mill where consistent dimensional accuracy and surface finish are required.
This end mill is rated for use across a broad range of workpiece material categories, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless and heat-resistant alloys, titanium alloys, and general steel. The 4-flute, right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration supports efficient chip evacuation in conventional and climb-milling strategies. The regular-length geometry makes it a practical choice for pocketing, profiling, and slotting operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills where clearance is not a limiting factor.
Rated for primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys including titanium. Designed as a Series Z1 OEM-style replacement or direct tooling selection for standard 7/16-inch collets and end-mill holders.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians using a compatible collet, hydraulic, or shrink-fit end-mill holder rated for the 7/16-inch shank diameter. The machine spindle must be stopped and the tool-change interlock engaged before inserting or removing the tool. Verify runout at the cutting diameter after tooling is secured; excessive runout accelerates edge chipping on carbide tools. Note that this end mill is not center-cutting and should not be used for direct plunge operations without a pre-drilled entry point.
