The SGS 36140 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. It features a 1/4-inch cutting diameter, a 17/32-inch length of cut (0.5313 inches), and a 3-1/2-inch overall length, placing it in the extra-long reach category within SGS Series 57. The six-flute geometry combined with a 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes at higher feed rates. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting hard workpiece materials. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in job shop and production environments.
The SGS 36140 is suited for milling operations on hard materials, including hardened steels and other high-hardness alloys. The extra-long overall length makes it appropriate for applications requiring extended reach into deep pockets, slots, or stepped features where standard-length end mills cannot reach. The 1/4-inch straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard 1/4-inch collets and milling chucks on vertical machining centers and CNC routers. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional and climb milling operations.
Designed for use with standard 1/4-inch collet chucks and milling tool holders on CNC vertical machining centers and compatible milling equipment. Optimized for hard workpiece materials per SGS Series 57 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or tool holder to the recommended gauge line and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a six-flute carbide tool.
