The SGS 35220 is a 6-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of contoured surfaces, complex 3D profiles, and finishing passes in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. Built on the Series 51B platform, it features a variable index geometry and a 35 to 45 degree variable helix angle that reduces chatter and improves surface finish at elevated feed rates. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the hardness and edge retention needed for demanding cutting applications. A Ti-NAMITE-X coating adds wear resistance and heat resistance at the cutting zone. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals reach for this end mill when finish quality and tool life are the primary concerns.
This end mill fits single-end toolholding setups and is suited for CNC machining centers running finish milling, die work, mold cavities, and complex surface profiling. The 1/4 inch diameter and 3/4 inch length of cut make it appropriate for moderate-depth contouring passes in slots, pockets, and 3D surface work where a smaller tool diameter is required. The 1/4 inch shank seats directly into standard 1/4 inch collets or end mill holders. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC spindle rotation.
Designed for use in standard 1/4 inch collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers. Compatible with toolholding setups requiring a 1/4 inch shank, single-end ball end mill in Series 51B geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout on a 6-flute tool will accelerate edge wear and degrade surface finish.
