The SGS 34974 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals and similar materials. With a 0.25 inch cutting diameter and a 1 inch length of cut, it handles profiling, contouring, and slot milling in applications that demand tight tolerances and consistent tool life. The micrograin carbide substrate provides edge stability, and the TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating reduces friction and built-up edge when cutting aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 38-degree right-hand helix promotes efficient chip evacuation. This is a single-end tool intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills by machinists and toolroom technicians.
The SGS 34974 is suited for non-ferrous metal machining in production and jobshop environments. Typical applications include finish profiling of aluminum components, cavity milling, and 3D contouring where a ball nose geometry is required to achieve the programmed surface. The regular-length body and standard 0.25 inch shank make it compatible with a wide range of collet chucks and end mill holders. No coolant-through feature is present, so flood or mist coolant is applied externally at the cutting zone.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully within the holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening - insufficient engagement increases runout and risk of tool pullout. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before use. Ensure spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material and diameter requirements before engaging the cut.
