The SGS 34866 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in non-ferrous metal applications. With a 0.5 inch cutting diameter and a 1.625 inch length of cut, this three-flute tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and a clean, square shoulder finish. The TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating reduces built-up edge and extends tool life when cutting aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous materials. A 38-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and reduces chatter. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments, this end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a straight 0.5 inch shank is compatible with the spindle toolholder. Its centercutting geometry allows it to plunge directly into the workpiece as well as perform standard peripheral cuts. The Series 43 designation identifies it within the SGS tooling line as a regular-length, straight-shank configuration optimized for non-ferrous workpiece materials designated by material code N. It is well suited for production runs requiring consistent dimensional accuracy and repeatable surface finish.
Designed for use with standard 0.5 inch straight-shank toolholders including collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit holders. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal (material code N), including aluminum, brass, copper, and similar alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and runout specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill. Confirm shank insertion depth meets the minimum engagement requirement for the toolholder in use. Verify spindle rotation direction is right-hand before initiating a cut.
