The SGS 34744 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling of non-ferrous metals including aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials. It features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/8-inch length of cut, and a 3-3/4-inch overall length. The three-flute geometry with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation at high feed rates. A titanium diboride (TiB2) coating reduces built-up edge and extends tool life in non-ferrous applications. The straight cylindrical shank measures 5/8 inch in diameter with a close tolerance of +0.00000/-0.00043 inches, ensuring accurate tool holding in standard milling chucks and collet systems.
This end mill suits CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where operators are cutting non-ferrous metals in production or job-shop environments. The regular-length configuration fits standard reach applications without requiring extended tooling. The right-hand cut with right-hand spiral fluting is the conventional setup for most horizontal and vertical milling operations. It is not a center-cutting design, so plunge entry is not recommended; ramp or helical entry should be used instead. Machinists and CNC programmers working in aerospace, automotive, and general fabrication shops will find this tool appropriate for slotting, profiling, and contouring cuts in non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use in milling applications with a primary workpiece material classification of non-ferrous metals (material code N). Part of the SGS Series 43 end mill family. Fits any tool holder or collet accepting a 5/8-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Because this is a non-center-cutting end mill, do not plunge directly into the workpiece — use a ramping or helical interpolation entry path. Verify runout at the cutting diameter after clamping before beginning a production cut.
