The SGS 34741 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-precision milling in non-ferrous metal applications. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length with a 0.5 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The three-flute geometry with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A titanium diboride (TiB2) coating improves surface hardness and reduces built-up edge on aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpieces. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool belonging to the SGS Series 43 line. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations in non-ferrous metals. The spiral flute design and 38-degree helix angle work together to maintain cutting stability at elevated feed rates typical of aluminum and brass machining. The regular-length configuration and standard shank dimensions fit common ER and side-lock toolholders used on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. It is not a centercutting tool and is not intended for direct plunge operations. Extended-reach setups are not applicable for this configuration.
Designed for use in non-ferrous metal applications (material code N) including aluminum, brass, copper, and similar alloys. Fits toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the SGS Series 43 product line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator familiar with toolholder torque procedures and runout verification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before changing tooling. Confirm shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. This tool is not centercutting — do not use for direct plunge milling; ramp or helical entry strategies are required when full-depth engagement is needed.
