The SGS 34734 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals and similar materials. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 5/8-inch length of cut, and a 3-flute spiral geometry with a 38-degree helix angle. The TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating reduces friction and improves tool life in aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. The straight cylindrical shank measures 5/16 inches in diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.00000/-0.00035 inches. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute, single-end tool in the SGS Series 43 line. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and precision manufacturing facilities use this tool for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations.
The SGS 34734 is suited for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills when working with non-ferrous metals. Its regular-length designation and 2-1/2-inch overall length make it appropriate for standard reach applications without extended projection. The non-centercutting design means it is intended for side milling and peripheral passes rather than direct plunge cuts. The 3-flute configuration balances chip evacuation with surface finish quality, which is a practical tradeoff for softer non-ferrous materials that generate larger chips.
Designed for use with non-ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material (material code N). Compatible with standard ER collet chucks, milling chucks, and shrink-fit holders accepting a 5/16-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth before torquing the retention system. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before production cutting, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and degrades surface finish on tight-tolerance non-ferrous parts.
