The SGS 34731 is a single-end, square-profile solid carbide end mill designed for cutting non-ferrous metals. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 38-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in aluminum, copper, brass, and similar materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides hardness and wear resistance suited for higher-speed finishing and profiling passes. A TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating reduces built-up edge on non-ferrous workpieces. This tool is used by machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace component work, and general metalworking operations requiring precise milling in softer, gummy, or abrasive non-ferrous alloys.
The SGS 34731 is intended for non-ferrous metal milling applications in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Its right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is standard for conventional and climb milling in aluminum, brass, and copper. The regular-length body and straight cylindrical shank fit standard ER collets and end mill holders accepting 1/4 inch shanks. This tool is not centercutting and should not be used for direct plunging; ramp or helical entry is required when cutting pockets.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard 1/4 inch collets or end mill holders. Optimized for non-ferrous metal workpiece materials including aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. Part of SGS Series 43.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a properly sized ER collet or end mill holder torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut. Because this tool is not centercutting, program ramp or helical entry moves when milling closed pockets to avoid tool damage.
