The SGS 34703 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-precision milling of non-ferrous metals and similar materials. It features a 1/4-inch cutting diameter, a 3/8-inch length of cut, and a 2-inch overall length with a 1/4-inch straight cylindrical shank. The three-flute spiral geometry runs a right-hand cut with a right-hand flute direction and a 38-degree helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. This is a single-end, uncoated tool suited for shops and field machinists running CNC mills or manual milling machines where tight dimensional tolerances are required.
The SGS 34703 is used in milling operations on non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials. Its regular-length classification and straight shank make it a standard fit for collet-style toolholders in both CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The uncoated carbide construction performs well in applications where cutting fluid is applied or where coatings would introduce dimensional variation. This tool is appropriate for production shops, toolrooms, and trade apprenticeship environments working with non-ferrous stock.
Designed as a standard-fit replacement or direct-use solid carbide square end mill for collet toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch straight cylindrical shank, typical of CNC machining centers and manual milling machines used in non-ferrous metalworking applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or toolholder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the collet nut per the toolholder specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before use, and verify runout with a dial indicator when tight tolerances are critical.
