The SGS 34650 is a single-end ball end mill designed for finishing operations in non-ferrous metal applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for contour milling, slotting, and 3D profiling. The mill measures 0.25 inches in diameter with a 0.375-inch length of cut and a 4-inch overall length, making it well suited for extended-reach applications where standard-length tooling cannot access the work zone. The 35-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting at higher feed rates. Two flutes keep the tool light and fast-cutting in aluminum, brass, copper, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials.
The SGS 34650 belongs to the Series 47EB long-reach end mill family, a configuration commonly used in die-and-mold work, aerospace profiling, and multi-axis CNC machining of deep cavities or stepped features. The 1.75-inch neck length and reduced neck diameter of 0.235 inches allow the cutter to reach into pockets without the full shank contacting the workpiece walls. The uncoated micrograin carbide surface is appropriate for non-ferrous metals where coating adhesion or edge buildup is a concern. This tool is specified and installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals running vertical or horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or equivalent tooling option for CNC machining centers using standard 0.25-inch shank end mill holders or ER collet chucks. Primary workpiece material compatibility is non-ferrous metals per Series 47EB application guidelines.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the 0.25-inch shank fully into the holder and torque the collet nut or set screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a two-flute finisher. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; direct external coolant or mist lubrication to the cutting zone when machining materials that generate heat.
