The SGS 34631 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for finishing operations in non-ferrous metal applications. It features a 0.1875 inch (3/16 inch) cutting diameter and a 0.5625 inch length of cut, with a 2 inch overall length and a matching 3/16 inch shank diameter. The two-flute, right-hand spiral design operates at a 35-degree helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation during light finishing passes. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide in an uncoated finish, this is a single-end tool built for precision work on aluminum, brass, copper, and similar non-ferrous materials. Machinists and toolroom operators rely on this geometry for contoured surfaces, 3D profiling, and radius features where surface finish matters.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills running non-ferrous metals such as aluminum alloys, copper, and brass. Its regular-length configuration fits standard tool holders without extended reach, making it a practical choice for everyday finishing work in job shops, production facilities, and toolrooms. The ball nose profile is used when machining sculpted surfaces, radii, and contoured pockets where a flat end mill cannot reach or where a radius blend is required at the floor of a feature.
Designed for use in standard CNC or manual milling applications on non-ferrous metals. The 3/16 inch straight shank fits ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and other toolholders accepting a 0.1875 inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with tool holding standards and safe machine practices. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended gauge line and torque the holder per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a finishing cut, as excessive runout on a small-diameter end mill accelerates wear and degrades surface finish.
