The SGS 32820 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in non-ferrous metal applications. It carries a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.03 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge. The three-flute, right-hand spiral geometry uses a coarse pitch configuration suited for roughing passes. A TiB2 (Ti-NAMITE-B) coating provides hardness and lubricity optimized for non-ferrous workpiece materials such as aluminum and copper alloys. This tool is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
The SGS 32820 fits into the SGS Series 43LC family of extended-reach end mills. The 1.5 inch reach length and 0.23 inch neck diameter allow access to deep pockets and recessed features without sacrificing rigidity in the shank. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is compatible with standard end mill toolholders and collet-style toolholding systems. Primary application is roughing in non-ferrous metals where chip evacuation and edge durability are critical. The short flute length relative to the overall 4 inch OAL makes this tool well suited for setups where reach is needed but cut depth per pass remains controlled.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. The 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is compatible with collet chucks and milling chucks sized for 1/4 inch shank tools. Primary workpiece material classification is non-ferrous metal (Material Code N), including aluminum, copper, and similar alloys.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power isolated per shop safety procedures. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder to the minimum engagement depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and degrade corner radius accuracy. Feeds and speeds must be selected based on machine rigidity, workpiece material, and depth of cut — consult the SGS Series 43LC application data for starting parameters.
