The SGS 32679 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin carbide with an AlTiN finish, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for aggressive cutting operations. The 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation while reducing cutting forces. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter and 0.625-inch length of cut, it is configured for stub-length reaches where rigidity is critical. A variable index design reduces harmonic vibration during the cut. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, production machining facilities, and tool rooms.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where right-hand spindle rotation is standard. The straight cylindrical shank seats reliably in standard ER collets and end mill holders. Primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S cover hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The stub-length configuration minimizes deflection when side milling or profiling at moderate depths of cut in those material families.
Designed for use with standard 0.5-inch straight-bore end mill holders and ER collet systems. Primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as defined in the SGS Series 55 product family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the tool holder manufacturer's torque and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle and machine are powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge-line depth to prevent pullout during cutting. Verify runout at the tool tip before beginning the operation, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and degrades surface finish.
