The SGS 32605 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal removal applications in industrial and job-shop environments. It features a 3/4 inch mill diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 0.06 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge and extends tool life in high-load cuts. The AlTiN coating - marketed under SGS's Ti-NAMITE-A designation - provides excellent heat and oxidation resistance, making it well-suited for dry or semi-dry machining at elevated cutting speeds. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute, single-end tool with a Weldon flat shank, intended for use in end mill holders. Machinists and tool-room operators in production and precision shops are the primary users.
The 32605 is engineered for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials. Its 5-flute, high-helix, variable-index geometry promotes chip evacuation and reduces chatter during aggressive cuts. The short length type and 3 inch overall length provide rigidity for side milling, slotting, and profiling operations where deflection control is critical. It is a non-centercutting tool, so plunge entry is not recommended without a pre-drilled pilot.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 3/4 inch Weldon flat shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is hard material. This tool belongs to SGS Series 55CR.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholding specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer's specification - do not rely on friction alone. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout accelerates corner radius wear and degrades surface finish.
