The SGS 32597 is a single-end corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Built from solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A), this tool handles both roughing and finishing operations. Key cutting geometry includes a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 0.0600-inch corner radius, five helical flutes with a variable index, a 45-degree high helix angle, and a 0.625-inch length of cut. The Weldon flat shank seats securely in standard end mill holders. This tool is suited for machinists and toolroom professionals running ferrous and exotic-alloy work on CNC machining centers.
The SGS 32597 belongs to the Series 55CR short-length end mill family, optimized for rigidity and reduced deflection in difficult-to-machine materials. Its 2.5-inch overall length and short flute geometry make it well suited to slotting, profiling, and contouring operations where tool overhang must be minimized. The AlTiN coating provides elevated heat resistance and oxidation resistance at the cutting edge, extending tool life in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions common in production and job-shop environments. The Weldon flat shank is compatible with standard end mill holders used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary application is hard materials. Not centercutting; not recommended for direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole or ramping entry path.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully in the holder and torque the set screw against the flat per the holder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on multi-flute solid carbide tools.
