The SGS 32578 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Featuring a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 0.06 inch corner radius, this tool is built for both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. The 5-flute, single-end geometry with a 45-degree high helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The AlTiN coating — marketed as Ti-NAMITE-A — provides heat resistance and extended tool life when cutting ferrous and exotic materials. The Weldon flat shank and h6 shank diameter tolerance ensure secure, repeatable tool holding in standard end mill holders.
The SGS 32578 is suited for CNC milling operations in job shops, aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking environments. It is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The variable index flute design reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. This tool is intended for right-hand cutting with right-hand flute direction and is compatible with standard end mill holders. It is not center-cutting and does not support coolant-through delivery, so it is best applied with flood coolant or mist systems from the outside.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Secondary application covers hard materials. Part of the SGS Series 55C corner radius end mill line.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the end mill holder and tighten the set screw against the flat to prevent axial pull-out. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and reduce corner radius accuracy.
