The SGS 31963 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining applications. The cutter measures 0.4375 inches (7/16 inch) in diameter with a 3-inch length of cut and a 6-inch overall length, placing it in the extra-long category for extended-reach work. A 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life in high-temperature cutting environments. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention needed for ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC mills and manual vertical mills.
This end mill is suited for milling slots, profiling, and contouring operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. The Series 3EL designation identifies it as an extra-long geometry optimized for deep cavities and extended-reach setups where standard-length end mills cannot reach. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, structural steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard collet chucks and end mill holders with a 7/16-inch bore.
Designed for use on CNC and manual milling machines with a 7/16-inch collet or end mill holder. Rated for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, structural steels, and high-temperature superalloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening — never hold the tool by the flutes. Power down and lock out the spindle before tooling changes. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating; excessive runout on an extra-long end mill accelerates wear and can cause breakage.
