The SGS 31884 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with AlTiN, it handles elevated cutting temperatures and abrasive workpiece materials with consistent edge life. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its versatility in slotting, profiling, and pocket milling operations. Machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments rely on this tool for tight-tolerance work across a range of material types.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cast irons, high-temp alloys, and stainless steels, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The extra-long length of cut of 1-3/4 inches supports deeper axial depths of cut where a standard-length tool would fall short. The 4-inch overall length with a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank provides rigid toolholding in collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit systems. Variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts.
Compatible with workpiece materials classified under codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and titanium alloys. Fits standard 3/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders with a straight-cylindrical shank interface.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in an e-stop or lockout state before tool changes. Verify shank runout and holder seating torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications before starting a cut. Confirm tool stick-out and depth-of-cut parameters against the programmed toolpath prior to running production.
