The SGS 31862 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision milling across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.25-inch diameter cutting edge, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length, placing it in the extra-long reach category. The micrograin carbide substrate delivers hardness and edge retention well above standard grades. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating reduces friction and extends tool life in production environments. The 30-degree spiral helix and variable index geometry help break up harmonics, reduce chatter, and improve chip evacuation. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in job shop and production settings.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations where extended reach is required. The extra-long configuration allows access to deep pockets and stepped features that standard-length end mills cannot reach. Applicable workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering a broad spectrum of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, cast materials, and heat-resistant superalloys. Its centercutting design permits plunge entry, adding setup flexibility. The straight-cylindrical shank provides consistent tool holding in standard collet chucks and end mill holders.
Designed as a Series 1EL replacement and production end mill compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Fits standard 0.25-inch collet chucks and end mill holders with a straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before inserting the shank. Torque the collet nut or set screw to the tool holder specification provided by the holder manufacturer. Verify runout after installation before beginning a cut, as extended-length tools are more sensitive to concentricity error.
