The SGS 31810 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 0.125 inch cutting diameter, a 0.75 inch length of cut, and a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with a 2.25 inch overall length. The tool is finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life across demanding materials. The 2-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece.
The SGS 31810 is suited for milling operations on materials spanning several workpiece categories, including cast irons, non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys, as indicated by its primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The long-length geometry makes it appropriate for slots, pockets, and profile cuts where additional reach is required beyond standard-length tooling. It is used in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and multi-axis setups in job shop, toolroom, and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for 1/8 inch shank collets and tool holders used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines requiring a 1/8 inch diameter square end mill.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the collet or tool holder. Verify collet size matches the 0.125 inch shank diameter and that the holder is clean and free of chips before tightening. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for collet nut tightening; do not exceed the tool overhang beyond what is necessary for the application to maintain rigidity.
