The SGS 31745 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in industrial and production machining environments. With a 0.75-inch cutting diameter, a 2.25-inch length of cut, and a 5-inch overall length, this is a long-series tool built for deeper reaches in slots, pockets, and contour milling applications. The four-flute, spiral geometry runs a 30-degree helix angle with a variable index configuration, promoting smooth chip evacuation and reduced vibration during cutting. A TiCN coating extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. Micrograin carbide construction supports the tight tolerances this class of work demands.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials, hard metals, and superalloys, as indicated by its primary material codes covering cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, and high-temperature alloys. The long-length design makes it appropriate for applications requiring extended reach into deep features. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in job shops, aerospace, energy, and general manufacturing settings. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard ER or side-lock holders without modification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide end mill for standard 0.75-inch straight-cylindrical shank toolholders, including ER collet chucks and Weldon-style side-lock holders accepting a 0.75-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and runout specifications. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Confirm shank engagement depth meets the toolholder minimum before tightening. Never exceed the tool's rated depth of cut or feed per tooth for the workpiece material being machined.
