The SGS 31733 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tool delivers extended wear resistance and thermal stability in production environments. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 4.5 inch overall length. The four-flute, 30-degree spiral helix geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. Variable index spacing reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing settings.
The SGS 31733 is suited for milling operations on a wide range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and titanium, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders used on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The long-length designation makes it appropriate for deep-pocket milling, slotting, and side-milling operations where standard-length tools cannot reach.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 1/2 inch straight-shank square end mill holders and ER collet systems used on CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. Compatible with workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per the supplier specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Verify collet or holder bore size matches the 0.5 inch shank diameter before tightening. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for the collet nut; do not over-tighten, as this can damage the shank tolerance surface.
