The SGS 31707 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built to Series 17 stub-length specifications, it features a 5/32-inch (0.1563-inch) cutting diameter, a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) length of cut, and a 2-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the micrograin carbide construction delivers hardness and edge retention across demanding workpiece materials. Two flutes provide a balance of chip clearance and rigidity suited to smaller-diameter end mill work. The bright, uncoated finish allows direct visual inspection of tool condition during use. Installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC and manual milling environments.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials. The stub length and straight shank make it appropriate for applications requiring reduced overhang and improved rigidity. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional milling machine spindle orientation. Centercutting capability allows it to be used for plunge entry as well as lateral passes.
Designed for use with standard milling machine collets and end mill holders accepting a 3/16-inch straight shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials per ISO workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, N, and H.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the straight shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout at the cutting diameter before beginning a production cut. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when changing or setting tooling.
