The SGS 31650 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.0625 inch (1/16 inch) cutting diameter and four flutes, this stub-length tool delivers sharp, consistent chip evacuation and improved surface finish at small diameters. The 30-degree helix angle balances cutting forces across right-hand flute and right-hand cutting geometry. A Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and reduces heat buildup at the cutting edge, extending tool life in production environments. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the rigidity needed for tight-tolerance work at this diameter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for milling slots, pockets, profiles, and contours in a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub length-of-cut format reduces deflection at small diameters, making it well-suited for high-precision work on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where rigidity is critical. The straight cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard collet chucks and end mill holders with a 1/8 inch bore.
Designed for use in standard collet chucks and end mill holders accepting a 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible with CNC machining centers and manual milling machines set up for small-diameter solid carbide tooling. Suitable for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the straight shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and verify runout before commencing cuts, as runout is especially critical at 1/16 inch diameter. Ensure the spindle and all moving axes are at a full stop before changing tooling. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for maximum RPM and feed rate at this diameter and coating type.
