Product Description

The SGS 31619 is a 4-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide stock, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention required for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, while the variable index design reduces harmonic vibration and chatter at the spindle. At 0.4375 inches in diameter with a 0.625-inch length of cut, this is a stub-length tool optimized for rigidity over reach. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working on mills, machining centers, and manual knee mills.

The SGS 31619 suits a broad range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its uncoated finish makes it well suited for applications where coating buildup would be a concern or where the substrate itself provides adequate performance. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard end mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling sized for 7/16-inch shank diameters.

Key Features

  • Micrograin solid carbide substrate for superior hardness and edge retention
  • 4-flute configuration with 30-degree helix for balanced chip evacuation and feed capacity
  • Variable index flute spacing reduces chatter and harmonic vibration
  • Centercutting geometry enables direct plunge milling without a pilot hole
  • Stub length design maximizes rigidity and minimizes deflection at the cutting zone
  • Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute for use in standard spindle rotation

Compatibility

Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, malleable materials, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and high-temperature alloys. Accepts standard 7/16-inch end mill holders, ER collet systems, and shrink-fit toolholders. Part of the SGS Series 16 end mill family.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the holder is torqued to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before initiating any cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as solid carbide tools can fail suddenly if run with a damaged edge.
