The SGS 31609 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of materials. Built to Series 16 specifications, it features a 3/16 inch diameter with a 3/8 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length in a stub-length configuration. The four-flute, right-hand spiral design with a 30-degree helix angle provides efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. Micrograin carbide construction delivers hardness and wear resistance suited to demanding machining environments. It is centercutting capable, allowing direct plunge entry into a workpiece without a pre-drilled hole. This end mill is uncoated and ships ready for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The SGS 31609 is suited for milling operations across a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, titanium alloys, and high-temperature alloys as indicated by primary material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub-length geometry makes it well suited for applications requiring maximum rigidity and reduced deflection, such as slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in tight setups. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments will find this tool appropriate for both roughing and light finishing passes depending on feed and speed selection.
Designed as a Series 16 stub-length square end mill compatible with standard straight-shank tool holders accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Suitable for use with materials classified under workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and use of this end mill should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with cutting tool setup and machine operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, de-energized state before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Verify collet or chuck specifications match the 3/16 inch shank diameter to prevent runout and tool pull-out. Always follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when establishing feeds and speeds.
