The SGS 31462 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations in a wide range of materials. Built to Series 14B specifications, this double-end tool features four flutes with a 30-degree right-hand helix and a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating that improves surface hardness and wear resistance. The 0.1875-inch diameter cutting end and 0.375-inch length of cut make it well-suited for profiling, contouring, and finishing work where tight tolerances are required. Micrograin carbide construction supports rigidity and edge retention under demanding cutting conditions. This tool is specified and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in both manual and CNC machining environments.
The SGS 31462 is appropriate for milling a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, high-temp alloys, and plastics — corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub-length profile keeps deflection low during close-tolerance passes. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life per unit. Typical applications include cavity work, slot milling, and 3D surface contouring on vertical machining centers and CNC mills.
Designed for use in CNC and manual milling machines accepting a 3/16-inch round shank, including standard collet chucks and end mill holders compatible with 0.1875-inch shank diameter tooling. Suitable for workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per the supplier specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's tool-holding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify collet or holder runout is within acceptable tolerance before engaging a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on small-diameter carbide tools. Avoid using damaged or undersized collets, which can cause tool pullout or breakage.
