The SGS 31455 is a double-end, square-profile solid carbide end mill designed for high-precision milling in a wide range of materials. With a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) mill diameter and a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) length of cut, it delivers tight tolerances on small-feature work. The four-flute, right-hand spiral geometry paired with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating adds surface hardness and wear resistance. This tool is used by machinists and toolmakers in CNC and manual milling operations where dimensional accuracy and tool life are critical.
The SGS 31455 is suited for milling operations across a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, carbon steels, heat-resistant alloys, and titanium-group materials, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub-length classification makes it a practical choice for short-reach slotting, profiling, and contouring on small components where rigidity and reduced deflection are priorities. The 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard collet toolholders commonly found in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option compatible with Series 14 SGS solid carbide end mill applications. Fits standard 3/16 inch straight-bore collet toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the milling machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the collet to the recommended grip depth to minimize runout. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, particularly on the double-end design, as a worn end can be mistaken for a fresh cutting edge.
