The SGS 31443 is a double-end, four-flute square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic workpiece materials. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a TiN coating, this stub-length tool delivers extended tool life and sharp, consistent cutting edges at a very small diameter of 0.0469 inches (3/64 inches). The 30-degree right-hand helix promotes smooth chip evacuation while maintaining dimensional accuracy. With centercutting capability and a straight cylindrical shank, it is suited for both plunge and peripheral milling operations. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with tight tolerances will find this end mill appropriate for fine-feature work on CNC and manual milling equipment.
This end mill is intended for use in applications involving hard metals, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and composite materials, as indicated by its primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub-length geometry limits deflection at small diameters, making it well suited for shallow-depth slot milling, profiling, and contouring in precision parts. The double-end configuration offers two usable cutting ends, extending the service life of each unit. It is appropriate for use in production machining, toolroom environments, and prototype fabrication where small-diameter, high-precision cuts are required.
Designed for use with materials designated under workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, which include hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, titanium and high-temperature alloys, and composites. Fits standard 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank collets and tool holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully into a precision collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before use. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side impacts and do not overtighten collet nuts, which can cause micro-fractures. Inspect the cutting edges visually before each use and replace if chipping or wear is detected.
