The SGS 31402 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations requiring a very small cutting diameter. With a 0.0313 inch mill diameter and a 0.0625 inch length of cut, this tool is built for tight-tolerance work in confined features, small radius profiles, and fine detail passes. The micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention necessary at this scale. Four flutes and a 30-degree right-hand spiral helix promote chip evacuation and surface finish quality. This tool is used by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The SGS 31402 fits applications across a wide range of workpiece materials, including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, nonferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and titanium, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub length configuration and 1/8 inch shank diameter make it well suited for high-speed finishing passes in small pockets, slots, and contoured surfaces where tool deflection must be minimized. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life between changes.
Designed for use with workpiece materials classified under SGS material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steels, stainless steels, cast irons, nonferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and titanium. Part of the SGS Series 14B ball end mill family.
Installation is performed by machinists using a compatible collet or end mill holder sized for a 1/8 inch shank diameter. Confirm machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before tooling changes. Verify runout and tool projection at setup to maintain dimensional accuracy at this diameter. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer recommendations for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut when working with micrograin carbide at small diameters.
