The SGS 31253 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin carbide stock, it holds tight tolerances and resists wear under demanding cutting conditions. The cutting diameter measures 0.125 inches with a matching 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank, a length of cut of 0.25 inches, and an overall length of 1.5 inches. The AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life in dry or semi-dry cutting applications. A 30-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in machining centers and CNC mills.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and light pocketing in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The stub-length body adds rigidity, which is especially useful when working in tighter setups or with small-diameter toolpaths. The variable index geometry helps reduce chatter and harmonic vibration during cuts. Rated workpiece material codes cover cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys, making this a versatile choice for job shops and production environments running diverse material types.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement compatible with standard 0.125-inch collet holders and tool holders used in CNC machining centers and manual mills. Suitable for workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as classified by the supplier attribute data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or locked out before changing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for a 0.125-inch shank diameter and torque the retention nut to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the shank and collet bore for runout before engaging the first cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on small-diameter carbide tools.
